Statement
Amy Morie,ASLA
Principal, Amy Morie Landscape Design
I have served with the SIGGRAPH conference since 1997 with the Guerrilla Studio/Studio, Art Gallery and Music-Audio program. Over the years I have increased my conference volunteer commitments, and I am excited by the possibilities for participation with the organization on the local level by serving the LA ACM SIGGRAPH Executive Council's incoming officeholders. My professional work to date is based on local involvement, and I would like to contribute with a more active role in the local chapter's operations, identity and outreach. My skills in organizing and creating outreach opportunities would be well-employed in support of the Council's goals.
I am highly interested in technologies and techniques that impact real-world development and advance sustainability and education by helping communities visualize and plan better futures. I work as an independent designer specializing in participatory design for communities and stakeholders. I primarily work with non-profits and community organizations to create sustainable landscapes using permaculture, habitat and water conservation principals. I hold degrees in Landscape Architecture from the University of Southern California and University of Florida, and since my school days I have focused on applications that expand the possibilities for underserved communities.
